Azure credits for eligible nonprofits

Microsoft publishes an annual Azure grant of service credits for eligible nonprofits. TRUE.org helps an organization understand that credit, keep everyday work in Microsoft 365 when that is the right place, and avoid a surprise bill. We cannot promise the credit. Email support@true.org.

The credit Microsoft publishes

Microsoft's nonprofit offers describe an annual grant of Azure service credits for eligible nonprofits, and Microsoft's nonprofit FAQ says the credit can be renewed each year while the organization stays eligible. Microsoft also says a payment card has to sit on the subscription in case usage goes past the credit, and that the card is not charged when usage stays inside the credit. The amount is Microsoft's, and Microsoft can change it. TRUE.org does not fund the credit, does not approve it, and does not keep unused credit for the next year. If Microsoft's page shows a different figure when you apply, that page is the one that counts. We do not print the number here.

Eligibility follows the same Microsoft nonprofit validation as the other offers. If your organization is not eligible, there is no nonprofit Azure grant to claim, and we will say that.

What the credit is, and what it is not

Azure credits pay for Azure services: a virtual machine, a database, storage, or a web app running in Azure. They are not Microsoft 365 licenses for Outlook, Teams, or Word. Those sit in the separate Microsoft 365 nonprofit offers. A small nonprofit often does not need Azure on day one. Mail, files, and Teams belong in Microsoft 365. Azure is the right conversation when a program already has a server, a database, or a line-of-business app that has to move, or when a specific Azure service is the only place a workload can run.

Anything left running draws down the same annual credit: a test virtual machine, a public address, a storage account nobody opened again. When the credit is gone, Microsoft's FAQ says further use can bill the card on the subscription. Watching the subscription is part of using the grant. We would rather a program stay inside the published credit than discover a bill after a test was left on.

How TRUE.org helps

We read what you are trying to run and say whether it belongs in Azure or in Microsoft 365. If Azure is the right place, and Microsoft has already approved the nonprofit offer, we help you apply the credit, see what is already costing money, and turn off what is idle. If another partner left a virtual machine behind, tell us. We will not tell you the credit is guaranteed.

Send the country you operate in, whether Microsoft has already validated the nonprofit, and a plain description of the system. The address is support@true.org. The form on this page reaches the same mailbox, and we reply to the work email you enter.

Questions we answer before a quote

Does TRUE.org give the Azure credit?

No. Microsoft does, for organizations it has validated. We help you use it without running past it.

Can the credit pay for Microsoft 365?

No. It is Azure consumption. Microsoft 365 mail and Teams are a separate nonprofit offer.

What happens if we use more than the credit?

Microsoft says usage past the credit can bill the card on the subscription. We watch for idle resources so that is not a surprise.

Who do we write to?

support@true.org. Include the workload you hoped to run, not a product list.

Send the tenant and what you need.

Same form as the top of this page. It goes to support@true.org. Include the domain if you already have a tenant.
