Two products, often mixed up
Microsoft includes Copilot Chat with Microsoft 365 at no extra charge. Microsoft 365 Copilot, the add-on inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, is a separate license. Microsoft publishes a nonprofit discount for eligible organizations and a commercial price for everyone else. Microsoft sets those amounts and can change them. This page does not repeat the numbers, because a stale figure would be worse than sending you to Microsoft's current offer.
The nonprofit discount applies only if Microsoft has validated the organization. An organization that does not qualify pays Microsoft's ordinary commercial price. We will not guess that number. We will read Microsoft's current offer with you so you see the real amount before deciding anything.
A rule before the licenses
Microsoft documents that Microsoft 365 Copilot works with the files and mail the signed-in person can already open. It does not replace your permissions. If a volunteer can open the full donor list, Copilot can be asked about that list too. Fix the access before you add the license.
Write a short acceptable-use line the staff will actually read. Name what may go into a prompt at work, and what may not go into a personal or consumer chat: case notes, student records, donor information, health information, and unpublished grant budgets. Copilot Chat inside the work tenant is not the same as a consumer chatbot on the public web.
We do not claim a number of hours saved. A license that nobody is trained to use does not change the program. The useful test is whether a specific task gets easier without sending private data to the wrong place: a first draft of board minutes, a summary of a meeting the person attended, or a formula in a workbook they already have.
How we help, and where businesses go
We start with who would have a license and which three tasks are worth it. Then we draft the acceptable-use line with you, check that sharing and guest access match that line, and run a workshop on your files. Prompt examples come from your programs, not from a generic list. Copilot Studio and other agents are a later step, for a repeated process such as intake questions, and only with a person still responsible for the answer.
Some groups that write to us are businesses doing public-benefit work, or firms that are not eligible nonprofits. Microsoft's nonprofit discount does not apply to them. The rollout work can still be the same: permissions, an acceptable-use line, and training on the jobs people already do. Licensing in that case is Microsoft's commercial offer and it is not a grant. Commercial licensing is provided by Acumor Solutions LLC dba TRUE.org, a for-profit Microsoft partner, separately from the nonprofit's programs. Businesses can find those services at acumor.com.
