Microsoft 365 grants and discounts for eligible nonprofits

TRUE.org helps charities in the United States and Canada use Microsoft 365 for mail, files, Teams, and sign-in, including the donated and discounted offers Microsoft publishes. We do not decide who qualifies, and we do not promise a grant. Questions go to support@true.org.

United States and Canada. Email support@true.org. New inquiries get a reply within one business day; 24x7 support is included when you buy licenses through TRUE.

What Microsoft publishes

Microsoft's nonprofit program includes a donated Microsoft 365 grant for eligible organizations and discounted prices on other Microsoft 365 plans. Microsoft publishes the current products, user limits, and amounts on its own nonprofit offers page. Those figures are Microsoft's. They change, and they are not a TRUE.org price list, so this page does not repeat them.

Eligibility is Microsoft's decision. In the United States, Microsoft looks for recognized nonprofit status and it lists organizations that do not qualify. A validation partner reviews the application. Microsoft says that review often takes a few days and can take longer if it needs more documents. Microsoft can grant or refuse an application. TRUE.org can help you prepare the tenant and the questions, and we will not tell a board you are approved before Microsoft says so.

Microsoft also limits who may use a granted license: paid employees and unpaid executive staff, inside the user limits for the country. Discounted licenses may cover volunteers. People who only receive services, give money, or hold a membership are not eligible users of the nonprofit licenses. Unused grant licenses are supposed to be removed. An organization may not share, transfer, rent, or resell them, including to another group in the same network.

What TRUE.org does after you ask

If you already have a tenant, we can look at which subscriptions are commercial by default and help you ask Microsoft for the nonprofit offers that match the staff who will use them. If you do not have a tenant, we help you start one in the organization's name, on a domain you control. The work after Microsoft's answer is mail, Teams, and files in that tenant, a short security baseline for who is an admin and how guests sign in, and staff sessions on your own sites rather than a demo company.

When you buy the licenses through TRUE.org, setup, migration, training, and 24x7 support are included. Commercial seats are used only when Microsoft's nonprofit offer does not cover the workload, or when the organization is not eligible. The point is access and support for the mission, not a storefront. Send the legal name, the country, and whether a volunteer created the first tenant years ago.

What to have ready

Tell us whether the people who need mail are paid staff, unpaid executives, or volunteers, because Microsoft's grant and discount rules treat those groups differently. Include the Microsoft domain if you have one. If a board needs a written note of what was requested and what Microsoft decided, say that in the form and we will keep the reply in that shape.

The form on this page goes to support@true.org. We reply to the work email you enter. If the honest answer is that the organization does not fit Microsoft's rules, that is the answer we will send.

Questions we answer before a quote

Can TRUE.org approve the nonprofit grant?

No. Microsoft and its validation partner decide. We help with the tenant and with asking for the offer Microsoft publishes.

Do volunteers get the donated licenses?

Microsoft's grant rules limit donated licenses to paid employees and unpaid executive staff. Discounted licenses may cover volunteers. We will match the seat type to the person.

Where does the form go?

To support@true.org. We reply to the work email you enter.

What if we already have Microsoft 365 with another partner?

We can take over support of the tenant and, if you move eligible subscriptions to our CSP agreement, line them up with the nonprofit offers Microsoft has approved. The tenant stays yours.

Send the tenant and what you need.

Same form as the top of this page. It goes to support@true.org. Include the domain if you already have a tenant.
